From a Lost Ring to a New Beginning

Hi, I’m the founder of Black Mango — and yes, I once lost my wedding ring.
It was one of those heart-sinking moments you don’t forget. At first, I was crushed. I told myself I’d never wear diamond rings again; losing something so valuable felt too painful. Looking back, I think I lost it because I put too much value on it. I wore it only on “special occasions” — birthdays, weddings, anniversaries. What was the point of owning something so precious if it lived most of its life in a box?

Then one night, as I was walking, something shifted. I suddenly felt at peace with the loss. Maybe the ring was simply where it was meant to be, no longer mine to hold. For the first time, I felt strangely guilt-free. But that word — guilt-free — stuck with me. Because in truth, I had long felt uneasy about my natural diamond. After watching a documentary on the blood-soaked history of diamond mining, it was impossible to ignore. Even today, conflict diamonds exist. That lost ring became a turning point: it freed me not just from the pain of losing it, but from the weight of its history.

That freedom opened a new chapter. I came across an article in a science journal about lab-grown diamonds. At first, I thought they must be fake. But they’re not. They are chemically, physically, and visually identical to mined diamonds — the same sparkle, the same durability — only created with science, not suffering. For thousands of years, people dreamed of making gold and failed. But diamonds? We actually did it. That discovery blew my mind.
